What is the ROI Event?
It is an educational event dedicated to the world of concept art and digital illustration.
It is open to everyone: enthusiasts, students, beginners, professionals and anyone with an interest in the subject.
There are no specific requirements, and it is structured to give everyone the chance to take part in the scheduled activities without any restrictions.
It is not a trade fair; you cannot buy your favourite merchandise and, above all, you won’t have to queue for ages.
ROI is a new experience for everyone.
Who are the organisers?
It was conceived by Genius, Academy of Visual Arts, a pioneer in the sector since 2012.
For us at Genius Academy, our ultimate ambition is to breathe new life into the Digital Illustration and Concept Art sector in Italy.
Are you organising an illustration competition?
Yes, every year we organise the Golden ROI Contest, an international Digital Illustration competition. Three winners will be invited to the ROI Awards ceremony.
Each winner will receive free entry to ROI for the entire duration of the event, as well as many other prizes.
Who are the guests?
Nine international artists working for the biggest names in the entertainment industry, who will be giving talks, conducting portfolio reviews and networking with participants.
3 leading international outsourcing studios in the fields of video games, cinema, board games and RPGs. Founders, art directors and representatives will be present to give talks on topics such as the industry, portfolios, submissions and all aspects of the concept artist’s profession.
What are the main activities of the event?
Talks and workshops with international artists and studios. Areas dedicated to clay model sculpting, traditional painting and life drawing with costumed models. Portfolio reviews and networking for three full days.
How much does it cost to attend?
There are various types of passes. On the homepage, you can find all the information on prices, pass types and included services.
Where do we meet on the first day of ROI?
The meeting is ahead the location Spazio 900. It is located at Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, 26b, 00144 Rome RM.
Where do we pick up the Welcome Kit?
On the first day of the event, you will find a desk at the entrance where you will be given the Welcome Kit that includes: event t-shirt, pins, program, badge.
Do I need to bring laptop and graphics tablet?
No, it is not necessary to bring this type of equipment. You will need to bring traditional drawing materials (for figure drawing) or any Tablets.
For traditional painting and maquette sculpture, what do we need to bring?
Nothing. We will provide the necessary materials for you. You can bring your own sculpture/painting kit except for the colors. You must necessarily use: tempera, watercolors or pencils. It is forbidden (due to story structure issues) to use oil and acrylic paints.
Are the seats numbered?
Other than the first 2 rows reserved for Pro Passes, the rest of the seats are free. You can sit wherever you want.
Will there be a Bar service?
No, it will be self-service. There will be a bar area equipped with coffee, water, herbal teas, tea, and various snacks. Everything will be free and available throughout the day.

For lunch how do we do it?
Except for PRO Pass holders, who will also have lunch included, we recommend bringing a packed lunch. Alternatively, there are several options listed below near the venue. Or you can always find something to nibble on in the coffee area. Dinner will be plentiful, with a catering service providing appetizers, first courses, second courses, and side dishes, with drinks included.
How to get there
By plane:
From Leonardo da Vinci Airport (Fiumicino) take the Leonardo Express train and get off at Roma Termini central station. Then take the Metro B line (Blue - Direction Laurentina) and get off at Eur Fermi or Eur Palasport stop (it is indifferent). A 10-minute walk away you will find the facility.
From the Giovan Battista Pastine Airport (Ciampino) take bus 720 and get off at the Laurentina terminus. Then take the Metro B line (Blue - Direction Rebibbia or Jonio) and get off at Eur Fermi or Eur Palasport (it is indifferent). A 10-minute walk will find the facility.
By train:
From Roma Termini central station, take the Metro B line (Blu - Direction Laurentina) and get off at Eur Fermi or Eur Palasport stop (it is indifferent). A 10-minute walk will find the facility.
By car:
Depending on the highway chosen to reach Rome, once you reach the tollbooth, follow the signs for the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA), take exit 26 towards Roma Centro/Eur and continue along Via Cristofo Colombo to the obelisk. Near the obelisk you will find Spazio Novecento.
Main language of the event
The main language of the ROI Event is English. All activities, lectures, and talks will be held in English without translators.
